Button Load Cell Integration

In strength and rehabilitation training, precise data is captured to measure and quantify performance while helping professionals guide performance goals.  Designed to directly measure isometric muscle force, a small form factor button load cell is installed into the frame of the bioDensity system to provide real-time accurate force readings without affecting the main functions and movements of the machine.

Challenge

  1. Compact, Center-Aligned Installation: The machine’s internal layout requires compact sensors mounted in a vertical axis between two threaded fixtures. The load cells must fit in a constrained envelope without affecting the machine’s mechanical travel.
  2. Accurate Measurement: For accurate data, the load cell must achieve accuracy >0.2% in use along the vertical axis. Readings must be consistent with minimal effects of user misalignment or side forces.
  3. High Force Range and Durability: The system must withstand repeated applications of inconsistent tensile forces – up to 5,000 lb – without degradation in performance.

Solution

Constrained by the movement and form-factor of the machine, ANYLOAD designed a custom 247BSWM series button load cell to meet the demands of the system.

  1. The compact size of the button load cell enables it to fit within the machine’s internal structure without altering its footprint or mechanical movement.
  2. Threaded holes on either side of the sensor allow secure attachment between components without the need for additional mounting hardware, providing reliable measurements and a strong link between the base and moving parts of the trainer.
  3. The stainless steel construction and high rated capacity ensure the load cell is able to handle repeated high-force tension loads while the button style design provides high-accuracy centered force measurement with tolerance for user misalignment.
