Upgrading to the ANYLOAD Orca Truck Scale with Protech and Superior Scales
ANYLOAD’s ORCA Truck Scale is replacing older truck scales at weighing terminals, with recent installations completed by Protech and Superior Scale.
When Shane Boivin, Manager of the Truck Scale Terminal at Solio Agriculture, took a closer look at the newly installed low-profile scale, his verdict was clear: it is a significant improvement over the previous system.
Accuracy was one of the first things Shane pointed out. He noted that the ORCA delivers a high level of precision, even compared with other systems he has worked with. He also highlighted the low-profile design and siding, which give the installation a cleaner appearance than the concrete scale it replaced.
The new design makes routine maintenance easier as well. Protech technicians can access and service the scale from the top, with no need to work underneath it. With the previous scale, access from below made servicing more difficult.
Customized for the Site
Built for the Long Haul
A truck scale must withstand thousands of heavy loads while maintaining its structural integrity and weighing accuracy. The ORCA is designed with these demands in mind.
Its U-channel deck structure provides greater strength, less deflection, and better durability than conventional I-beam designs. Each module is precision-fabricated and held to exact tolerances for consistent performance.
The deck is pre-cambered using CNC hydraulic presses, creating a precisely formed longitudinal arch that counteracts long-term sagging and distributes stress more evenly across the platform. This improves fatigue resistance and helps maintain calibration accuracy under repeated heavy loads.
The ORCA’s sealed structure protects against corrosion, making it well suited to demanding environments and changing climates.
Designed for Easier Service
Durability is only part of the equation. When maintenance is required, technicians need straightforward access to the components they service.
The ORCA features accessible service pockets that simplify inspection, maintenance, and component replacement, reducing repair time and downtime. ANYLOAD’s load cells are designed for demanding truck scale applications.
For operators, easier service means less disruption to daily operations and lower maintenance costs over the life of the scale.
Looking Ahead to Winter
With the scale now in operation, the teams at Solio Agriculture, Protech, and ANYLOAD will track its performance through the winter months. Because the scale was installed without skirting, snow accumulation will be an important consideration during heavy or wind-driven snowfall. The building’s orientation is expected to provide some protection, and the teams will observe conditions through a full winter before deciding whether additional measures are needed.
ANYLOAD and Protech will continue to support the installation and make regular visits to the area, including a follow-up on the ORCA truck scale installed at Cenovus by Superior Scale.
We look forward to helping more customers upgrade to the ORCA Steel Deck Truck Scale.
