Il fonctionne en mesurant la variation de la r\u00e9sistance \u00e9lectrique d'un mat\u00e9riau lorsqu'il est soumis \u00e0 une contrainte m\u00e9canique. Constitu\u00e9 principalement d'un fil ou d'une feuille m\u00e9tallique appliqu\u00e9 sur un film souple, les contraintes entra\u00eenent un \u00e9tirement du conducteur, ce qui provoque une variation de la r\u00e9sistance \u00e9lectrique. Ce changement de r\u00e9sistance peut \u00eatre mesur\u00e9 avec pr\u00e9cision \u00e0 l'aide d'un circuit de pont de Wheatstone.<\/p><p><span style=\"font-style: inherit; font-weight: inherit;\">Si les capteurs \u00e0 jauges de contrainte sont le \"syst\u00e8me nerveux\" des \u00e9quipements industriels, les jauges de contrainte sont les \"nerfs\" des capteurs individuels. C'est le composant actif dont la r\u00e9sistance \u00e9lectrique varie en fonction de sa d\u00e9formation.<\/p><p><strong>Feuille de support (Carrier) :<\/strong> La couche de mat\u00e9riau non conducteur sur laquelle la grille est fix\u00e9e. Elles peuvent prendre diverses formes en fonction de la force \u00e0 mesurer et d'autres facteurs. Malgr\u00e9 leur polyvalence, les jauges de contrainte sont des capteurs d\u00e9licats, vuln\u00e9rables \u00e0 l'exposition environnementale (humidit\u00e9, dommages physiques, corrosion, etc.).
